Day 36: Shimanami Kaido

Today there was no Henro walking. Instead I rented a bike to explore a part of Shimanami Kaido, which is a 60 km long road connecting the big islands Honshu and Shikoku. On the Shikoku side the road starts in Imabari and ends on the Honshu side in Onomichi. Six smaller islands of the Seto Inland Sea are in between connected through huge bridges. The Shimanami Kaido has been constructed in a way that it can be also used by pedestrians and bicycle riders. They can enjoy a great view over the Seto Inland Sea and can explore the smaller islands on their way. I believe, this is very attractive day tour.

  1. We also remember Onomichi because it is well known to us being the home-town of our Japanese doughter-in-law and we have been there in 2012. When we visited her parents, they took us over the bridges to Matsuyama. Indeed, it is a wonderful tour!
